ʚ Candy From Strangers

At Kitahama station, I transferred onto a limited express instead of a semi express by accident. Either Google Maps lied to me or my reading skills have severely deteriorated… I’d like to think its the former rather than the latter. The limited express train shot me 25 more minutes north than I intended.

It was a little horrifying to not be able to get off as I watched the train get further and further from my destination. It skipped many so stops all the way up to “Hirakatashi.” I chose to accept my fate and admire the scenery of an unfamiliar route. There was a kind older man about to exit the train who held something in his hand to offer to me, which I know sounds very suspicious, but I detected no malice from him. He was older, had a newspaper and smiled as he gave me two candies, which I thought was very sweet. Maybe I need to travel to areas with less foreigners more often. I also noticed that people are much kinder to me when I’m dressed cute out of work clothes. Or maybe its the fact I feel more like myself. Anyways, my friend picked me up from the station and we drove tooo… Costco!

I had a hot dog from the food court. They are pork (not beef here) but it was really yummy. The bulgogi bake seemed super interesting to me but I’m American, okay! I had to get the classic! Even though it was ~4pm when I ate a hotdog, it’s eight and I’m not the least bit hungry. It was fascinating seeing what it was like in another country.

My friend drove me back to Osaka (which meant I didn’t have to terrorize passengers on the Keihan line with my rotisserie chicken, yippee!), I put my frozen berries in the freezer and we went to Blue Bottle Shinsaibashi. The barista brought our drinks to where we were sitting, how nice!~

❃ I like to use a fake name at cafes. Mia has been my go-to recently.

and I know Japan doesn’t really have that random compliment culture that we do in the United States but I choose to bring it with me anyways. When I was buying a bread knife at Daikoku Drug, I noticed the cashier’s super cute nails and had to say something. She complimented me back by saying “Oneesan is also very kawaii”, gesturing to my whole being, and I felt very magical for a moment. My outfit today is a small pink cloak over a fitted yet flowy white dress, with pink arm warmers to match.

If you have a little extra kindness, you may as well spread it. That’s what my grandma taught me, and it’s a virtue I hold dear. I said that as if it’s part of my backstory or something… but maybe, just maybe it is!

But speaking of backstories… yesterday, I watched the first episode of Witch Hat Atelier with Tom! It was really interesting from the get go, the animation is beautiful, and I really can’t wait to watch more. We also ordered pizza, which was a perfect pairing with an anime night. It’s genuinely been years since the last time I watched anime (aside from Apothecary Diaries).

Also I know I have hated on Japanese pizzas before, and though they never compare to ones in the U.S. (except Hughes pizza), they can be decent. I think I just got burned from having a bad pizza in Kyoto a few years ago. Oh, tomorrow I’m going to Kyoto before work- not really for fun, for a blood test, but maybe I’ll find a cafe to stop by. I’ll have to see wherever my work sends me. Fridays are always unpredictable, but I’m assuming I’ll be in the office.
